  2. New York Bill Advances Requiring Non-Economic Damages for Loss of a Pet – Contact the Assembly
    A bill is moving in the New York Assembly that would require someone to pay for non-economic damages in cases involving the wrongful death of or injury to a companion animal. This would mean that in addition to the fair monetary value of the animal and veterinary bills, a person would be liable for the loss of “society, companionship, comfort, protection and services” that were provided by the animal.

  4. CALIFORNIA ALERT: AB 485 SCHEDULED FOR COMMITTEE VOTE ON WED., MAY 17 – EXPRESS OPPOSITION NOW
    Assembly Bill 485 is scheduled for consideration and a vote by the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, May 17. Like many other measures that reference “retail pet sales" or "pet stores", this measure is aimed squarely at restricting the availability of purpose-bred dogs and cats. California residents are strongly urged to contact members of the Assembly Appropriations Committee and ask them to vote against the bill.

    The American Kennel Club (AKC) is pleased to announce that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has conditionally vetoed Senate Bill 3041. The AKC, a multitude of our grassroots advocates, and a number of organizations allied in opposition to the onerous provisions of the legislation, worked together in urging Governor Christie to veto the bill.
